I cannot say enough good things about Chris Shepherd and his Dr. Energy Saver team. They were extremely professional and thorough from start to finish, and we have been much more comfortable in our home. We bought new geothermal units for our 50 year old home when we purchased it a couple of years ago. We thought the geothermal unit that was solely responsible for heating and cooling the second level of our house was malfunctioning so we had it inspected and had someone come out to service it because it just couldn't hold the temperature setting even though it ran almost constantly. But the unit seemed fine. Finally, we thought that we needed to consider that it might be a different problem altogether. So my husband did some research and we called Dr. Energy Saver. Throughout the diagnostic process, which was very informative and spot-on as it turned out, Chris and his team kept us up to date on the needs of our home and how to fix them. We actually learned a lot about making our home more energy-efficient. We were concerned about pricing since we were correcting some mistakes made by previous insulation installers and adding insulation in places that had never been insulated; they brought us two detailed, cost-effective estimates, customized everything for us and were very pleasant to work with. When they began working on our home, some unexpected challenges arose, including tornado warnings and loss of electricity, but they handled everything with professionalism and excelled in solving the problems, and in a way that was no extra cost to us. They were willing to put in extra time daily to finish the job on time. And in the end, we were thrilled with the results. It has been almost a year now, and our home has been cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. We had grown accustomed to some areas of our home varying in temperature from the rest of the house and didn't realize how extreme the differences really were until the problem was fixed. We no longer have to tweak the thermostats all the time to keep the temperature regulated. It is hard to believe the profound improvement we have seen in our home. I highly recommend Chris and Dr. Energy Saver.

If you don't want to read my full review, let me just tell you that we ultimately chose Dr. Energy Saver because they guaranteed to resolve our problems and we trusted that they would stand behind that guarantee.  They did not disappoint and actually exceeded my already high expectations.    When we first moved in almost three years ago, due to winter energy costs coming in on the average of $500 per month and well over $300 in the summer, along with some pesky temperature fluctuations from one level of our home to another, we began looking in to insulation providers to see what could be improved in our 35-year-old home. We met with at A LOT of insulation companies and it seemed each of them had a different idea of what needed to be done to accomplish this (read: what they wanted to sell us). They did not offer any sort of guarantee that we would achieve our goals and after not feeling particularly "wowed" by any of them, we put the idea on the back burner.   Well after a very hot July this year and a very cold October, we decided to pull the trigger on either new windows or new insulation.  This go-around, we took a lot more time to do more research on the front end and everything kept pointing to insulation being more important than replacing windows and one company - Dr. Energy Saver - kept coming up.  So we decided to have Chris with DES come out.  He was friendly, professional and beyond thorough (he was probably here 1.5 - 2 hours using all sorts of measurement tools).  I appreciated the fact that he wasn't pushy at all (unlike most of the others who I couldn't get to leave) and said he would like to go back to his office, review his findings, and work up some different bids.  Chris ultimately gave us 2 proposals.  The first was just what was necessary to achieve our biggest concerns and the other included more helpful, but less critical, items such as vacuuming, a catwalk, etc.  After a lot of discussion, we ended up going with something in between the two scenarios.   The DES proposal was higher than the other companies that came out previously and when we mentioned that, Chris showed us where his price for simply blowing in insulation was roughly the same as theirs; that his cost was higher because of all the other efforts that he felt were necessary to achieve a noticeable improvement.  And that brings me back to why we ultimately went with Dr. Energy Saver:  THEY GUARANTEED OUR GOALS WOULD BE MET and if any of them weren't resolved to our satisfaction, any additional remedies would be done at no cost to us and even further, if those didn't fix the problem, he would give us our money back.  During all our research, we never once came across another company's information that even hinted they would guarantee that our perception of comfort in our problem areas would be achieved!   The installation took 5 full days (Chris had estimated between 4-5 days) and at no time through the process did we ever doubt our decision!  They were professional, gave us regular updates and cleaned up at the end of each day.  A huge shout-out to Jason - Chris, whatever you're paying that guy, it's not enough!   In the end, everything we wanted to achieve has been accomplished and Chris has followed-up with us 2-3 times to see how we're feeling in our home.  In fact, not only has our upstairs gone from the coldest part of our home to the warmest, we just got our first full Duke Energy bill and it was almost HALF of what I expected. The bill, less than $400 (for a 4800 sf home), was also the smallest winter energy bill we've ever received and it was for a very cold December.  Chris and Jason clearly love what they do and we certainly enjoyed working with them. I can't express how glad we are that we waited for the right company. Also, based on how things feel now, we don't plan on getting any new windows and that will save us almost twice what we spent on insulation). This is one of the best contractor decisions we have ever made and I recommend them highly to all my friends.  Many thanks to Chris, Jason and the DES team - we are grateful for all you have done!

I had researched a lot of information about how best to insulate a house. I had a few different quotes from companies and I was looking for key things for them to say. Basically they all said, "we'll just put in cellulose." The reason I went with Chris is for two reasons. First, he looks at this from an ecological aspect. Doing this is the best way to make your home "greener" thus saving on energy usage and pollution. Secondly, because he looks at every house as a snowflake where no two are alike. He inspected every part of my home and came up with a detailed plan that involved air sealing (the most important) then a combination of foam and cellulose. He was excellent to work with and extremely knowledgeable. His crew - especially Jason - were great to work with. Both gentleman have very high standards for themselves and want to make sure the customer is satisfied. I have no reservation recommending Chris and his company to anyone looking for improving their house.

Your company was highly recommended by Doug at Hader who aerosealed the heating/cooling ducts. You are also a recommended contractor on Duke Energy's website. I did not feel it necessary to check out the competition.

My home is SO much better I don't event know what to say. In the 12 years my family and l have lived in this house it has never been comfortable in the winter or summer. There has always been a cold draft of some kind that you could actually feel on your face in the winter. Replacing all of the windows, putting blankets in front of the door jams and sealing off the fireplace barely even helped. One cold month in February 2014 our energy bill was a whooping $697 for keeping the house at 65º! I had actually given up on ever being comfortable in my home. And I had no budget left to do any more improvements for quite some time.

For our specific needs your company was the best fit. Spray foam around the can lights and fans, walls etc. Not only is our house bearable now, my allergies and migraines are better! Pretty sure it was sealing those gaps. Omg! My heater is also not shutting off. I wish I could have afforded tinhabe insulation blown into the walls because that is the only place we still feel cold coming in from. You have no idea how nice it is to wake up to a warm house after freezing!!!! Or maybe you do!
