The problem
The attic of Mr Gaudio's house was very poorly insulated. It had about 6 inches of fiberglass as insulation, which is far from sufficient in Quebec. Because of this, he felt some very cold breezes in winter, especially in the rooms of the house and he had noticed that heating costs were getting very high.
The solution
We removed or customer's old insulation to properly seal any air leaks on the attic floor. Subsequently, we added our SilverGlo insulation boards on some walls of the attic to finally blow 16 '' of cellulose fibers.
PROBLEM
Winter is almost over. However, there has been an excess of drafts in the house, which was uncomfortable. Additionally, the Hydro bills were very high, especially during the months of December, January, and February due to the overuse of heating systems to compensate for the drafts. Consequently, the client does not want to repeat the same scenario next winter. During our free inspection, our specialist Dan examined the attic. He immediately noticed the inadequate amount of insulation. Furthermore, upon seeing the ventilation ducts, Dan identified a sealing issue.
SOLUTION
Our team of workers, led by Colin, began by removing the old insulation. This step is important because many holes allowing air to escape may be hidden underneath. They then conducted an extremely detailed inspection to identify, without exception, all sources of air leaks. Our excellent product ZypFoam is used to seal air leaks. As for the attic access hatch, it is the largest existing hole in the attic that can allow air to escape, hence the importance of insulating it very well. For this purpose, we used our revolutionary thermal insulation, SilverGlo. Finally, we blew in approximately 17 inches of TruSoft cellulose fiber insulation on the attic floor to achieve an optimal thermal value of R60.
During an attic insulation job, we encountered extreme humidity levels that had caused mold spores to develop within the old insulation. Our team removed the damp, contaminated insulation and thoroughly treated the area to eliminate all mold spores. Once the attic was properly cleaned and sealed, we installed our TruSoft cellulose insulation, achieving a thermal value of R60. This not only enhanced the home's energy efficiency but also addressed the moisture issue, creating a more comfortable and healthier environment for the homeowners.
Mr. Leduc contacted Systèmes Éconergie because he wanted to re-insulate his attic. He did well because his attic was very poorly insulated. In some places there were only 5 in’’ of fiberglass!
