Dan first learned about the benefits of an attic restoration when he received a mailer from Tyson Energy Solutions at his home. He was intrigued at the prospect of making his home healthier, maintaining a comfortable temperature year-round, and being able to offset the cost of the work through savings on his heating and cooling costs. He called us to inspect his attic and we found that he only had about 2 inches of old, dirty insulation present with substantial roofing debris present, which is a fire hazard. In addition, Dan's HVAC ducts were also old and broken, allowing contaminated air to leak into his home and conditioned air to leak into his attic. Once we showed him the pictures of his attic and ducts and the issues they had, Dan decided to replace all of the ducts and have us perform a full attic restoration.

We began by sucking out all of the old, dirty insulation and replacing the old ducts with new, R-6 flex ducts. Once the attic was bare, we cleaned and sanitized the space with DSV sanitizer. We then ir-sealed the floor of the attic to prevent airflow from occurring between the attic and the home. We also installed rodent-proof barriers to keep rodents and other pests out of the attic. We blew in 13 inches of premium, fiberglass insulation and then built a barrier around the attic access, in order to prevent insulation from falling into the home when the access was opened.

The customer faced elevated heating and cooling bills due to having only 4 inches of insulation in the attic. Following the installation of new ductwork, the subsequent measure was to increase the insulation depth to 14 inches, aiming to optimize energy efficiency and reduce utility costs.

We began by removing all of the old insulation. Next, we installed the QuietCool Smart Gable Attic Fan 3.0 to help cool his attic by automatically bringing in cooler outside air. We then cleaned and sanitized the attic using DSV sanitizer so that any contaminants and microbes were eliminated. We also located air leakage points and sealed them off using closed-cell foam. This helps to prevent the flow of air between the attic and the home's living spaces. To prevent rodents and other pests from entering the attic space during winter, we installed rodent-proof barriers at any potential entry points. Lastly, we blew in premium, fiberglass insulation to a height of 14 inches to provide the Energy Star-recommended R38 protection.

Once the attic was air-sealed, we then blew in new, premium fiberglass insulation to a depth of 14 inches. This achieved the Energy Star-recommended R38 protection.
