Keeping a Basement Warm in Pittsfield, MA

This homeowner in Pittsfield, MA called us originally for a mold removal problem. But when our Home Comfort Specialist arrived in the home, he noticed that the basement had insufficient insulation. Insufficient or nonexistent insulation can cause issues with condensation forming -- which can cause a mold issue.

We first had to remove the insufficient insulation in the rim joist. The "rim joist" is the perimeter of the floor framing system along the exterior of the house.

We then were able to insulate the rim joist using our two part expanding spray foam. This fills all the cracks and gaps. Now, the home will be more comfortable!

Insulating a Basement in Pittsfield, MA

This homeowner called us hoping that we would be able to help him with his basement. It had a lot of issues, and one of those was that the basement was not properly insulated. The only insulation in the basement was fiberglass in the rim joist. (The rim joist is the perimeter of the floor framing system along the exterior of the house). Unfortunately, fiberglass insulation allows a lot of airflow through and around it.

Luckily, we had the perfect solution for this customer. We removed the fiberglass and replaced it with two-part closed cell spray foam. This spray foam expands and fills all cracks and gaps in the rim joist and over the sill plate. Now, this home will be much more comfortable, and there are no more air leaks in the basement!

Insulating an Attic in Pittsfield, MA

This homeowner in Pittsfield, MA called us hoping that we would be able to help her. She was having a mold problem caused by insulation that was improperly installed.

We were able to help this customer! We started by removing the batt insulation, bagging it and bringing it out. After remediating the mold with another solution, we started work on replacing the insulation. We started with air sealing, making sure that all cracks and crevices were sealed. We used Zypfoam™ one part spray foam to air seal. We then used a long hose attached to a machine that blows our TruSoft™ cellulose insulation into the attic. TruSoft™ cellulose is able to fill all gaps and odd-shaped voids, as it is blown in insulation.

Now, this homeowner has a much more comfortable home!

Insulating a Basement in Pittsfield, MA

This homeowner in Pittsfield, MA called us hoping that we would be able to insulate his rental property. His renters were dealing with air leaks, and there was one bedroom that was particularly cold. In a basement, the “rim joist” is the perimeter of the floor framing system along the exterior of the house. The joints and gaps between all the framing members allow for a lot of air leakage into the house. The rim joist is seldom insulated and never air sealed. Basement ceiling insulation, especially fiberglass batts, doesn’t stop the flow of cold air into the home. Results - cold floors, drafty, uncomfortable rooms, cold basement/lower level, higher heating and cooling bills and more condensation in the basement or crawl space in the summer.

We had the perfect solution for this customer. In this solution, we spray foam the rim joist in the basement in order to seal and insulate it. Two part expanding spray foam is installed on the rim joist and over the sill plate to seal all air leaks from the outside and insulate this important area of the home. Our spray foam has a high insulation value per inch of R7, and because it expands, it seals all cracks and gaps and joints where air from the outside enters the home. Results - warmer floors, less drafts, more comfortable rooms, the house is easier to heat and costs less to heat, less summertime condensation on cold basement surfaces.

Insulating an Attic in Pittsfield, MA

This homeowner in Pittsfield, MA reached out to us because he was interested in attic insulation. He had received previous quotes, and the other contractors had suggested that he get his attic insulation completely replaced. Our Home Comfort Specialist came out to the home to evaluate the attic. The homeowner was primarily concerned with the fact that the home was uncomfortable and not energy efficient. He had high energy bills and ice damming. Our Home Comfort Specialist also noted that they had a mold issue stemming from humidity in the attic.

We had the perfect solution for this customer. We were able to replace the attic insulation with TruSoft™ cellulose insulation. We started by removing the fiberglass batts, putting them into bags and bringing them out of the house. We then went in and air-sealed around all of the points where air leaks up from the home to the attic. We did this using our Zypfoam™ spray foam. Once the attic was air sealed, we used a long hose to blow in TruSoft™ cellulose insulation. TruSoft™ is amazing -- it does not burn, get moldy, or attract pests. The blown-in insulation fills all gaps and oddly shaped voids. The homeowner is now much more comfortable in his home!
