Replacing Window Wells in Torrington, CT

This homeowner in Torrington, CT called us because he wanted to get his window wells replaced. He already knew about our SunHouse™ window enclosures and was determined to have them for his home. He had been living in his home for 12 years, and the window wells had come with the house. They were rusting, as well as collecting water during heavy rains. This rainwater was then leaking into his basement.

We were able to help this customer! We replaced the old, rusty window wells with our SunHouse™ window enclosures. We removed the old and rusty window wells. They addressed the main problem this customer was having -- flooding window wells -- with a clear cover that was fitted over the enclosure. This prevents most water from getting in. It also helped him with his secondary issue, which is that they were unattractive. Our SunHouse™ window enclosures are a beautiful addition to any home, helping increase natural light and preventing debris from collecting in window wells. Now, this homeowner is excited that they will see less rain and water collecting in the window wells!

Insulating a Basement in Thomaston, CT

This homeowner in Thomaston, CT reached out to us looking to insulate his home. He knew that we had just been out to his mother's home and was hoping to get an evaluation for the same work she was getting done. He had bad drafts and his home was very cold. He was looking to insulate the basement first before the attic. In a basement, the “rim joist” is the perimeter of the floor framing system along the exterior of the house. The joints and gaps between all the framing members allow for a lot of air leakage into the house. The rim joist is seldom insulated and never air sealed. Basement ceiling insulation, especially fiberglass batts, doesn’t stop the flow of cold air into the home. Results - cold floors, drafty, uncomfortable rooms, cold basement/lower level, higher heating and cooling bills and more condensation in the basement or crawl space in the summer.

We had the perfect solution for this customer. In this solution, we spray foam the rim joist in the basement in order to seal and insulate it. Two part expanding spray foam is installed on the rim joist and over the sill plate to seal all air leaks from the outside and insulate this important area of the home. Our spray foam has a high insulation value per inch of R7, and because it expands, it seals all cracks and gaps and joints where air from the outside enters the home. Results - warmer floors, less drafts, more comfortable rooms, the house is easier to heat and costs less to heat, less summertime condensation on cold basement surfaces.

Reducing Dust and Allergens in a home in Windsor, CT

This homeowner called to see what we could do to reduce the allergens that where coming into her home. During inspection, we saw fiberglass in the rim joists that was completely cover in dirt from wind washing. This was the reason why the dust was getting into the home.

We removed all of the dirty fiberglass insulation and sprayed the rim joist with our 2-part spray foam completely sealing it. Once sealed, dust and allergens cannot come into the home any longer.

After Dr Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions completed this project, the homeowner has seen a dramatic reduction of dust and allergens allowing her to breathe easier!

Reducing Humidity In a Home In Windsor, CT

This home owner in Windsor, CT called us out originally to figure out why his bathroom was so cold! When the building science specialist was doing his inspection he found another issue that the home owner had in his basement. The issue was that his sump pump was sitting in a hole open to the basement with water in it. This is a problem because when that water evaporates, it becomes humidity and the dehumidifier has to take the water out of the air. But the dehumidifier was dumping the water back into the sump pump hole! It was a cycle that could not continue. To fix this problem, we installed a new sump pump with a lid so the water cannot evaporate back into the air.

Now that Dr Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions has come in and installed a new sump pump, this home owner will not have to worry about his humiditiy issue again!
