This homeowner in Charlemont, MA called us after seeing our reminder about annual maintenance that we put in our newsletter. He had installed both a SaniDry XP and a sump pump in his home 4 years prior. While the SaniDry had been serviced twice prior (2 years after install and 3 years after install), the homeowner did not want the sump pump serviced either time. This means that the sump pump had not been cleaned and serviced at all since installation. This presents several issues. Like any mechanical device, sump pumps can fail -- and a failed pump for this homeowner would mean a flooded crawl space. Sand and sediment can build up in a sump pump, which can cause blocked lines.
We were able to help this customer by doing maintenance on his sump pump. First, the maintenance technician inspected the crawl space the pump was located in, looking for any issues that may have occurred since we left the home. Then, the technician began testing the circuit of the outlet that the SmartSump was plugged into. He then checked to ensure the pump could run effectively. He removed the inside of the pump and cleaned it, followed by cleaning the basket. He checked the discharge lines and ensured they were not clogged. He then reassembled the pump and discharge lines. He tested the WaterWatch alarm, and then flood tested the pump. After ensuring that it was functioning, he left the home. Now, the homeowner can rest assured that their pump is working, and is clean for the first time in years!
This room over the garage is being renovated. The homeowner wanted to be sure his home is properly insulated. One of the treatments our team did in this room was to insulate the kneewall. A kneewall is the triangular space under the sloped roof and behind the wall of the room. We installed our Foamax polyisocyanurate foam board on the exterior walls. Foamax provides superior insulation and it is flame retardant. The homeowner can rest assured the knee walls in this room are properly insulated.
This Home in Canton, CT was experiencing drafts and needed a Rim Joist insulation.
This homeowner in Hamden, CT called us originally hoping that we would be able to help her with her roof and gutters. Once we had completed that work on her home, she called us back wondering if we could help her with her porch as well. Years of untreated roof issues had led to other problems in the home. With the porch, the support beams and columns were rotting. She was hoping that she would be able to replace them to make it look good as new!
We replaced the rotting beams with pressure-treated lumber.
Now, this homeowner's porch is renewed and will be great for years to come!
This homeowner in Unionville, CT called us hoping that we would be able to take a look at his insulation. He was experiencing a lot of issues with rooms that were uneven temperatures. When our Home Comfort Specialist arrived in the home, he noted that one issue in the home was the crawlspace. It was poorly insulated and unencapsulated, meaning that cold air was coming in from outside and traveling through the entire house.
We were able to help this homeowner by utilizing our CleanSpace™ crawl space encapsulation system - with a few modifications for the home itself.
We started by utilizing our two-part expanding spray foam to insulate around the base of the (now unused) chimney that is in the crawl space. Then, we got to work. We started by adding SilverGlo™ foam board insulation on the walls. SilverGlo™ has graphite infused into the foam, increasing its R-value by 24% over standard foam. Then, we added two-part expanding spray foam to the rim joist and over the sill plate until it met the SilverGlo™, forming a barrier. Then, we laid out dimpled drainage mat on the floor, creating airspace as well as a thermal break. Dimpled drainage mat also has the bonus of forcing any water that may occur under the mat to go to the lowest point of the crawl space. We then added TerraBlock™ floor insulation over top of that. After that, we installed our heavy duty CleanSpace™ encapsulation liner, sealing it to the walls and floors.
Now, this homeowner's crawl space is insulated and encapsulated -- causing the home to have less drafts and cold floors. They are much more happy!
