This homeowner in Enfield, CT called us hoping that he would be able to get an insulation evaluation done on his Cape-style home. He wanted the entire home evaluated. The home had been under renovation for a few years, and it was time to begin the insulation. The second floor of a Cape often suffers from inadequate insulation, and air leaks from the soffits into poorly insulated kneewall spaces. This results in cold drafty rooms in winter that are harder than necessary to heat, and hot rooms in the summer as roof heat radiates in unchecked. Kneewall spaces are dusty and too cold or hot - unsuitable for clean storage.
We had the perfect solution for this customer -- our Super Kneewall™ treatment. First, our SilverGlo™ foam insulation panels are installed on the bottom of the rafters in the kneewall spaces and the ceiling joist bays are blocked and sealed with foam to stop air leakage. Then the roof slopes are dense packed with TruSoft™ cellulose insulation to stop air flow and insulate. Finally, the flat ceiling is insulated with TruSoft™ cellulose insulation. Result - rooms are comfortable all year and need much less heat and air conditioning. Drafts are eliminated as kneewall spaces are airtight and clean and suitable for storage. Summer roof heat is far less.
This homeowner wanted to lower fuel bills and humidity in their basement. We installed our "one of a kind" Basement to Beautiful panels. These unique panels are made from our SilverGlo foam insulation which protects from fluctuating temperatures and change in season - making your home comfortable. We also installed our SaniDry Basement Air System, which is a high performance dehumidification system that keeps basements dry, helps prevent mold and lessens humidity upstairs!
This homeowner in Springfield, MA called us out to their home for a Full Home Energy Evaluation after watching Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions commercials on television. They were interested in a Energy Evaluation for their home because they wanted to see what they could do to make their home more comfortable. These homeowners added an addition to their home some years back, and under the floor of this addition there was fiberglass insulation. This insulation was held in place by a plastic vapor barrier. When we cut the vapor barrier down water started to pour out of it, which is a huge problem. In the before photo, you can see what this insulation looked like once we took that plastic off. Even though there is fiberglass insulation in the floor, because it sags down away from the sub floor, the same outside air gets over it rendering it useless. We know what we needed to do to help these homeowners become more comfortable in their home.
The first thing we need to do is remove all of that old, nasty insulation from the floors of this home. We remove and properly dispose of the material, vacuuming up anything that fell. Then we can move on to our next step. We install SilverGlo foam insulation board across the floor joists and hold them in place with with 3” washers and 5” screws to ensure stability. We seal all of the SilverGlo seams with one- part foam.
Now that Dr. Energy saver by Eco Energy Solutions has increased efficiency and stopped air flow from leaking in and out of the home, these homeowners can live more comfortable in their home all year round!
This Springfield, MA homeowner reached out to Fogarty's Home Services to insulate his uninsulated floors that were open to the outside underneath the home. He had cold, drafty floors because there wasn't any insulation to protect the floors from the outside air. We were able to install Expanding Spray Foam Insulation under these cold floors at the rim joists to resolve air leakage and conductive heat loss through the floor. Now our happy homeowner will feel results including much warmer floors, less drafts, more comfortable rooms, a quieter home, and lower energy bills.
This family in Springfield, MA had a basement that was causing condensation, rot, cold floors, drafts and high energy bills, Their crawl space wasn't insulated properly, so Fogarty's Home Services was called to fix this uncomfortable home. In the winter, vents let cold air directly into our homes. Floor insulation sags away from the sub-floor and the cold air gets above it - rendering the insulation useless. In the summer, the vents let warm, humid air in which is cooled by the subterranean crawl space. This caused the relative humidity to go way up and condensation to form all over the crawl space surfaces including floor joists and ducts. This was why the homeowners were experiencing discomfort. Fogarty's Home Services sealed up the vents and other leaks to the outside. The walls were insulated with SilverGlo™ foam to increase the R-value by 24% over standard foam. A dimpled plastic drainage matting was installed across the floor to create an airspace and thermal break, and TerraBlock™ floor insulation was installed over it. Finally, the heavy duty crawl space encapsulation liner was installed permanently across the dirt floor - sealed with mechanical fasteners to the walls and spiked to the floor. Now this family will feel much lower humidity, much warmer floors upstairs, less drafts, a more comfortable house, and lower energy costs.
