Living next to the marsh in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, is the sweet coastal life. For coastal home foundations, there are preventative measures needed in order to live in such a humid area. First is ground water management. Our CleanSpace™ System addresses the mitigating groundwater intrusion. We install 4" perforated drainage pipe w/silt sock along the perimeter of crawl space and then install a drainage matting over the floor of the crawl space. The SmartSump and 15 ft. of discharge to prevent mold, rot and odors in the crawl space.
Second step is prevent cupping of wood floors. We suggest installing the Cleanspace encapsulation system that includes a custom-fitted vapor barrier, designed to mitigate airborne moisture and particulates. Cleanspace is not a waterproofing membrane, and does not offer protection from standing water. We install a dehumidifier, clean out/prep the crawl space, wrap piers, install a new access panel with weather stripping and secure it with toggle bolts.
If you are looking to extend the life of your coastal home that has a crawl space, have us come do a free inspection to make sure you have the preventative measures in place to enjoy your home for years.
