This Annapolis home was experiencing drafts and insufficient cooling. Our Auditor made the conclusion that the attic insulation was not sufficient enough to keep cool air inside the home during the hot summer months, leading to higher electricity bills. Next, our Production Crew came in and removed the existing insulation. The insulation in the attic had deteriorated, limiting its effectiveness. The Crew then replaced the old insulation with Dr. Energy Saver’s recommended levels of high grade, Cellulose Insulation. This insulation will help keep the home cool during hot summer months and warm during winters as well as lower the homeowner’s energy bill! This homeowner in Annapolis, Maryland was having a problem with rooms getting drafty and cold in the winter and hot and sticky in the summer, particularly in the master bedroom. They suspected that their crawl space was the main issue and called Complete Home Solutions to come out and check.
We came and performed a home energy audit to figure out what we could to fix the situation. What we did was remove the existing foam board and insulation that was already down in the crawl space because they were no longer doing their job. Afterwards, we performed a CleanSpace Encapsulation System with Closed Cell Spray Foam Insulation on the walls and rim joists. We then sprayed 2" of closed cell spray foam on the walls and rim joists to create an airtight break! This resulted in lower humidity in the summer, warmer floors and less drafts in the winter, and an overall more comfortable home with lower utility bills as a bonus!
This townhome in Annapolis, Maryland is just the right size for this small family. The one complaint that they have is how drafty some of the rooms get. In the winter time, it is a real hassle to keep all of the rooms at a comfortable temperature, and it costs them quite a bit of money in utility bills to do it. Fortunately, they were introduced to Complete Home Solutions before it became too late this year!
We gave the homeowners a Home Energy Audit to see what exactly we could do to fix this problem. We found that the attic was the number one issue when it came to their energy efficiency levels. The insulation that was up there was developing grey and black patches, indicating that it was no longer any good. So, we removed that, performed some air sealing along the rim joists and attic penetrations (spots that were allowing air leakage), and installed our TruSoft Cellulose insulation. Now, we are proud to say that the family is more comfortable than they have ever been in their home and are ready to brave the winter!
