This Catlett, VA homeowner was having issues with their master bedroom being hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Upon an evaluation by Comfenergy, we found one of the walls of the master bedroom were adjacent to the attic above the garage. The only insulation providing a thermal barrier between this wall and the hot/cold attic on the other side, was falling fiberglass insulation.
Even if fiberglass were in place on this wall it still would not stop air movement and heat transfer through it. Fiberglass is ONLY effective if it is sandwiched on all sides by an air barrier.
Comfenergy used 2" thick SilverGlo EPS foam boards to build an additional R10 of thermal barrier along the back side of this wall. More importantly it creates an air barrier for the fiberglass and makes it effective!
Now this customer has a total of R23 on this wall and its air tight! Comfort at its best!
This home in Spotsylvania VA was too hot in the summer months. Our Sales Professional Eric was able to identify a need for a radiant barrier in the attic to help keep the external sun rays from heating up the attic space. This will keep the attic space cooler and let the air seal and insulation that was also done, have a more effective impact on the comfort of the home.
This before photo shows a vertical wall in an attic insulated with fiberglass insulation. This fiberglass allows hot/cold air to travel through it and touch the drywall, thus allowing the heat and/or cold to transfer into the living space.
The after picture shows the fiberglass removed and newly insulated using closed cell spray foam. This builds a great protective thermal and air barrier and makes the top floor of this home cooler in the summer months.
This Leesburg, VA homeowner had mold growing in their vented attic assembly that was causing the family to develop allergies and get sick very often. Comfenergy discovered this attic mold and treated it with MoldX-2 before air sealing, insulating and providing other services.
These pictures ar eof the mold covered roof joists before and after being treated by Comfenergy with MoldX-2.
This homeowner in Leesburg VA was experiencing comfort issues in several areas of their home. They called us to try and find out why. Our Home Performance Sales Pro Carl went out to do a full home inspection and see what options we could offer to help make the home more comfortable. Along with insulation improvements in several other areas, Carl determined that it would be helpful to insulate the metal laundry chute running out of the laundry room and through the attic. This was due to excessive drafts in the laundry room and uneven temperatures compared to other areas of the home. Our production team prepared the area and then used spray foam to cover and seal the laundry chute.
